Dilated cardiomyopathy and potentially deadly digoxin

Abstract

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a relatively common condition in sub-Saharan Africa, accounting for a substantial portion of patients admitted for heart failure. In the Heart of Soweto study it was the most common cardiovascular disease. Two important contributions to our understanding of this puzzling condition appear in this issue of the SAMJ.
