The South African Medical Association is aware of a few attempts to fraudulently obtain money from authors. 

The scam typically presents during the time an article has been accepted for publication with fraudsters purporting to be from the association/journal office, requesting authors to pay their page fees.

Please note that any emails requesting payment will emanate from legitimate email addresses associated with the South African Medical Association i.e. samedical.org. To avoid falling prey to these scams, a few safety tips follow:

 1. Ignore all emails coming from free email services such as Gmail, Yahoo, etc. 

2. If the the email contains numerous mispellings, or unprofessional language and/or is in a different style from other emails received from our offices, this is often a red flag to pay attention to. 

3. Avoid predatory agents by submitting to our journal platfroms yourself.
